Day 3, Thursday, August 16, 2007

Glen Allen, Virginia - Washington, DC - Millersville, Maryland

We had a breakfast of ham and biscuits and left Jenny's parents about 9:00 AM. We traveled on Hwy 1 all the way to DC. (We're trying to stay off of the interstates.)

Jenny is a wonderful pilot. My sweets!

We stopped for ice along the way.

We made it to Washington, DC. The traffic wasn't bad at all. We found parking right at the Mall right behind the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Eight quarters gave us 2 hours on the parking meter and off we went.

Jenny standing besides the big elephant in the rotunda in the Museum of Natural History. We saw the dinosaurs and the insects, etc. Loved it. The museum was relatively crouded though.

Then we went to the Aerospace Museum, my favorite. I could live there. They had so much more on display than they did the last time I was there in 1978.

Oh man...I've died and gone to heaven! Gotta go, our $2.00 is just about up on the parking meter. Also we need to get out of town before rush hour traffic.

We stayed at the KOA campground in Bowie, Maryland just north of DC. There is electricity, water, and free wifi at the tent sites. There are private showers and bathrooms. There is a store to buy camping items and food. It's really nice.

Me keeping this page up to date on the KOA campsite's free wifi.

We got our tent set up just in time before it got too dark. We have a queen sized air matress so sleeping should be almost as good as home. This is our first camping experience and everything is going well. This is Great!

Getting our grill hot for supper. I used the electric pump that I used to fill the air matress. (Great tip Brantley!)

We had steak and corn on the cob. Mmmm Mmmmm Good!

We settled down for an after supper pot of coffee by the camp fire. Nice!

We'll head back into DC in the morning to see some more sites and then northward.

See you tomorrow....Good Night!
